Job Summary
As a Dental Hygienist, you will play a crucial role in providing preventive dental care, educating patients on oral hygiene, and supporting the dentist in delivering high-quality dental treatments. The ideal candidate is passionate about patient care, has excellent communication skills, and thrives in a collaborative team environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care & Patient Treatment
Perform comprehensive dental hygiene services, including prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and periodontal maintenance.
Take and interpret digital X-rays to assist in diagnosis.
Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide (if licensed).
Conduct periodontal charting and assess gum health.
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and preventative care.
Identify signs of oral diseases and collaborate with the dentist on treatment recommendations.
Apply fluoride treatments, sealants, and desensitizing agents as needed.
Patient Interaction & Education
Provide compassionate patient care while explaining procedures and addressing concerns.
Educate patients on the relationship between oral health and overall health.
Encourage adherence to personalized oral hygiene routines.
Infection Control & Compliance
Maintain a sterile and organized work environment in accordance with OSHA, CDC, and HIPAA regulations.
Follow infection control protocols, including proper sterilization of instruments and equipment.
Keep accurate patient records and documentation.
Team Collaboration & Office Support
Work closely with dentists, dental assistants, and front office staff to ensure smooth patient flow.
Assist with treatment planning by providing insights based on hygiene assessments.
Participate in team meetings and continuing education opportunities.
Qualifications & SkillsRequired:
Valid Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license in California .
CPR/BLS Certification.
Knowledge of digital X-ray systems (Dexis, Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or similar).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Passion for patient education and preventative care.
Preferred:
Experience with laser therapy (if applicable in the state).
Familiarity with practice management software.
Spanish or Chinese language skills (a plus).
