Job Description

Job Overview
The role of Lead Dental Assistant at Revolution Dental Implant Center is a leadership position with the responsibility to provide oversight and coordination of the Dental Assistants and Sterilization Technician. The goal of this position is to ensure efficient and safe patient flow through the clinic. The Lead Dental Assistant has administrative duties relative to the Dental Assistants as well as the usual clinical responsibilities of the Dental Assistant role. Patient care is the primary priority and must be unsurpassed at all times. This position organizes the Dental Assistants involved in restorative treatment in addition to surgical procedures.
The Lead Dental Assistant position requires leadership abilities which will inspire and encourage current staff cohesion and education within the team. The Lead Assistant must be patient and approachable at all times, while maintaining the ability to hold staff accountable to the Policies and Procedures of the Practice. The ability to give honest feedback to Leadership about the dental assistants and associated staff is essential. The Lead assistant must also be skilled at assessment of the abilities and personalities of new hires, to effectively integrate them into the Practice.
Duties

Mentor new staff members with onboarding and training
Provide input to Human Resource Coordinator [HRC] with employee evaluations
Facilitate continuing education regarding equipment on a monthly basis
Actively participate in morning huddle
Review lab cases 4-days prior to patient appointments and daily
Daily and weekly check documentation of consent forms for procedures
Verify prescriptions are written for patients as required
Ensure quality photos and high smile photos are taken accurately at every Smile Design appointment
Problem solve daily patient schedule issues
Assist HRC to ensure adequate staff coverage for patients scheduled
Monitor and ensure adequate lunch breaks of assistant and sterilization staff
Assist with issue resolution and workflow recommendations to enhance efficient patient flow
Assist HRC in periodic assessment of all Dental Assistants and Sterilization Tech to provide continuing education opportunities and training updates
Monitor adherence to training to ensure understanding and compliance with training goals and guidelines
Act as a resource to other clinical staff to improve patient care and advance company goals
Print and keep all patient consent forms stocked in sterile area
Perform opening and closing duties for operatories and sterilization area.
Open patient charts and review health history
Prepare patient operatory for consultations, surgery and delivery of appliances as necessary.
Procure and prepare necessary instrumentation for surgery
Verify correct patient by 2 forms of identification, escort to operatory and ensure patient is comfortable in operatory.
Perform dental X-rays and CT
Assist with 4-Handed and 6-Handed Dentistry
Notify ordering Assistant of any supply requests
Remove and attach patient dental prosthetics
Administering topical anesthetic
Providing clinical answers & information to front office teammates for patient call-in questions
Learn dental processes, procedures, terminology and techniques including but not limited to, fixed dental implants, restorative treatment and dental prosthetics
Entering detailed patient chart notes into practice management software
Entering detailed paper lab slip information into case pan and attach electronically to next appointment
CE in dental clinical aspects
Prepare instrument trays for sterilization
Perform instrument sterilization when sterilization technician is unavailable

Skills

Is expert in x-ray, CBCT/pano and patient charting
Assist with 4-Handed and 6-Handed Dentistry
Familiarity with Open Dental software for managing patient records and scheduling.
Strong understanding of medical coding practices to ensure accurate billing processes.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in medical documentation.
Ability to lead a team effectively while promoting a collaborative work environment.

Effectively monitors patient schedule and maintains efficient Dental Assistant utilization for optimal patient flow
Ensures lab cases are completed prior to patient appointments
Effectively monitors staff work schedule
Collaborates with entire team for workflow improvements
Effectively oversees ordering and inventory tracking of dental supplies to maintain needed availability of supplies while adhering to inventory budget
Effectively monitors proper equipment function and adheres to maintenance schedules as per policies and applicable regulations
Audits Dental Assistant charting to ensure accuracy and timely completion
Assists with creating and editing Dental Assistant training checklists and metrics
Provides effective education and constructive feedback to Dental Assistant staff
Dental Assistant
Is knowledgeable and capable in surgery and restorative appointments.
Is professional at all times, especially in high pressure/stressful situations.
Educates patients on oral health, treatments and appointments. Understands the patient’s appointment series from first consultation through the delivery of appliance and subsequent cleaning.
Shows compassion for our patients.
Works with our vendors and partners to ensure receipt of the needed supplies and assists with tracking all ordered materials.

Skills, Qualifications and Competencies:

High School Diploma or GED
Valid Oregon Driver License and insurance
Certified in the state of OR
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Engaging and friendly; excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a stressful environment and maintain a pleasant demeanor
Desire to learn dental healthcare, oral health, dental implants, dental prosthetics, dental terminology, dental instruments, restorative procedures and processes.
Problem solving and troubleshooting
Passionate about patient care
Basic CPR Certification
Has dependable job attendance and can be relied on to follow through with assigned tasks.
