Primary Function:
Under the general direction of the Dental Director, the Dentist provides dental care for patients by diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums. May also function in specialized area such as orthodontics.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Take and diagnose radiographs.
Perform clinical examinations and formulate treatment plans.
Perform all phases of restorative dentistry and prosthetics.
Perform endodontic therapy or refer therapy, if best handled by a specialist.
Perform periodontal therapy including minor surgical procedures.
Perform pedodontic treatment including pulpotomies, stainless steel crowns, and space maintainers.
Conduct routine exodontia and minor oral surgical procedures.
Correct minor tooth movement.
Perform preventative therapy.
Deal with commercial laboratories in obtaining dental requirements.
Perform minor laboratory procedures.
May serve as part of Adolescent Clinic; develop training for other staff, treat adolescents, conduct counseling and adolescent support.
Establish and maintain department records and reports.
Prepare monthly statistics on dental services performed.
Render dental services synchronously or asynchronously as appropriate.
Perform dental services via portable equipment at location outside the dental clinic.
Minimum Basic Knowledge:
DDS/DMD license from an accredited educational institution.
Licensed to practice dentistry state of MA.
Additional training in specialized field when applicable.
Experience & Qualifications:
Two to five years of experience preferred, including residency requirements.
One year of experience after graduation from dental school preferred.
Two to five years of experience preferred, in specialized procedures as applicable.
Independent Action:
Individual functions independently within the broad scope of established health center policies and objectives; refers only specific problems to Dental Director where clarification of policies or procedures, or professional determination may be required.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Responsible for supervising assigned Dental Hygienist or Dental Assistants.
Define Access Level to PHI:
Level 4: Authorized to access full health information. UCC position and job responsibilities involve the provision of patient care and working as a clinical team member. Staff in this category level, although allowed full access, should only access the necessary information for each respective treatment encounter/circumstance.
