Job Description- Dental Assistant
Reports to:
Program Director of the Tooth Truck, Inc. and General Dentist of Tooth Truck, Inc. for dental treatment related duties.
Overview:
Under immediate supervision, assists dentist during examinations and treatment of patients; prepares working areas, instruments, and materials for use in dentistry. Educates each patient on proper oral hygiene technique and engages with each child to boost self-esteem.
Dental Assisting Responsibilities
-Instruct patients on proper oral hygiene and provide needed dental supplies
-Assist with procedures by handing instruments to Dentist; prepare or mix
dental materials as instructed
-Prepare work areas and instruments for Dentist; keep work area neat and
orderly; clean, oil and set up equipment; dust and disinfect surfaces;
sterilize instruments; set up instrument trays
-Ensure fluoride is applied at conclusion of prophy appointment (by either dentist or assistant)
-Take quality radiographs
-Builds successful relationships with dentists by providing guidance and
feedback on dental care
- Abides by standard OSHA and HIPPA guidelines at all times
-Communicate needs for ordering more dental supplies
-Maintains inventory of endodontic supplies, placing orders as needed
-Provide proper paperwork to patientââ¬â¢s parent/guardian regarding treatment plan
and post-operative care
-Review inventory to maintain adequate supplies; ensure materials have not
surpassed expiration dates for use
-Prepare Tooth Truck clinic for transport (i.e. securing equipment and workspace)
-Participate in tours and provide program information to Tooth Truck visitors,
volunteers, and donors
-Participate in fundraising and public relations events
-Fulfill other duties as assigned
-May be asked to obtain Commercial Driverââ¬â¢s License and drive the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. Share duties of fueling and dumping gray water when scheduled
-Coordinate routine cleaning and maintenance schedules
-Familiarity with mechanical functions of unit and ability to trouble shoot
Desirable knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics:
-Completion of training to be a Dental Assistant
-Have nitrous oxide certification
-Knowledge of dental procedures and terminology
-Ability to operate various forms of dental equipment
-Understanding of service-oriented environment
-Interpersonal/human relations skills
-Ability to maintain standards of cleanliness
-Ability to interact with children
-Excellent computer and interpersonal skills
-Work successfully with a team of individuals towards a common goal
Job Type: Full-time
