Here’s a list of duties tailored for a dental hygienist in your functional, whole-body wellness-focused practice:
Primary Duties:
Comprehensive Oral Health Care

Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and root planing, while ensuring patient comfort.
Conduct periodontal charting and monitor gum health, emphasizing prevention and long-term wellness.
Apply fluoride treatments, sealants, and other preventive care therapies.

Patient Education & Advocacy

Educate patients on the connection between oral health and overall body wellness, including airway health.
Teach proper oral hygiene techniques tailored to individual needs and lifestyle.
Offer compassionate guidance for patients with dental anxiety or special needs.

Support Functional and Airway-Focused Care

Screen for airway issues, tongue ties, and signs of sleep-disordered breathing.
Assist in collecting data for airway health evaluations, such as CBCT imaging, myofunctional observations, and bite assessments.
Collaborate with the dental team on functional treatment plans, contributing to whole-body health goals.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with dentists, assistants, and the front desk team to provide seamless, patient-centered care.
Participate in team meetings and continuing education sessions to stay at the forefront of functional dentistry practices.

Clinical Responsibilities

Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with HIPAA standards.
Sterilize and prepare instruments and treatment rooms to ensure a safe and clean environment.
Monitor and manage inventory for hygiene-related supplies and products.

Enhancing Patient Experience

Greet patients with warmth and kindness, creating a welcoming environment.
Build trusting relationships with patients to ensure long-term care and satisfaction.
Customize hygiene care to align with the practice’s holistic approach to dentistry.
