Job Description:
Overview: As a Dental Hygienist, your primary responsibility is to provide essential oral health care services and support to patients within a dental practice. Your role involves preparing the operatory for the day, maintaining strict infection control standards, assessing patients' oral health, and offering treatment recommendations. Additionally, you will perform various dental hygiene procedures, take X-rays, and document patient records accurately. Knowledge of dental software, including Eaglesoft and Itero, is essential. Possession of a Dental Hygiene license and Anesthetic license is mandatory for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Prepare Operatory for the Day:
ïâ· Ensure cleanliness and organization of the treatment room before patients arrive.
ïâ· Verify that all necessary instruments and equipment are ready for use.
ïâ· Prepare sterilization and infection control measures.
2. Maintain Infection Control:
ïâ· Strictly adhere to infection control protocols and guidelines.
ïâ· Sterilize and disinfect instruments and surfaces to prevent cross-contamination.
ïâ· Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
3. Assess Patient Oral Health:
ïâ· Conduct thorough assessments of patients' oral health and hygiene.
ïâ· Identify and document any oral health issues or concerns.
ïâ· Develop treatment recommendations and plans in collaboration with the dentist.
4. Take X-rays:
ïâ· Safely and accurately take dental X-rays as needed for diagnosis and treatment
planning.
ïâ· Ensure proper positioning and radiation safety for patients.
5. Perform Routine Prophylaxis and Periodontal Charting:
ïâ· Administer routine dental cleanings (prophylaxis) to remove plaque and calculus.
ïâ· Conduct periodontal charting to assess gum health and detect signs of gum disease.
6. Scale and Root Planning:
ïâ· Perform scaling and root planning procedures to treat and manage periodontal disease.
ïâ· Provide patients with post-treatment care instructions.
7. Maintain Documentation and Charts:
Accurately record patient information, treatment plans, and procedures in electronic
health records or paper charts.
ïâ· Keep detailed and organized patient records for future reference and follow-up.
8. Utilize Dental Software:
ïâ· Proficiently use dental software systems such as Eaglesoft and Itero for scheduling, record-keeping, and treatment planning.
9. Possess Required Licenses:
ïâ· Maintain an active Dental Hygiene license.
ïâ· Hold an Anesthetic license for local anesthesia administration.
ïâ· Ensure compliance with state and local licensing requirements.
Qualifications:
ïâ· Dental Hygiene degree from an accredited program.
ïâ· Active Dental Hygiene license.
ïâ· Anesthetic license for local anesthesia administration.
ïâ· Strong knowledge of infection control protocols.
ïâ· Proficiency in dental software (e.g., Eaglesoft, Itero).
ïâ· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
ïâ· Attention to detail and a commitment to patient care.
