Job Summary
Under the supervision of a licensed dentist, the Dental Assistant Supervisor will perform chairside duties as an EFDA in all phases of oral surgery, restorative, endodontics, prosthodontics, and periodontal treatment. The Dental Assistant Supervisor will also supervise EFDA personnel. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with Yellowhawkâs Mission and Vision Statement.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Supervises EFDA personnel, assists with interviews and the selection of new Dental employees, provides onboarding instruction and training; plans, coordinates, assigns and reviews work; acts on problems and concerns, maintains standards; approves time and leave requests; conducts employee performance appraisals with approval from the Dental Administrator.
2. Provides mentoring, supervision, and technical assistance to EFDA staff. Manage EFDA team leave requests, rotating 4-day work week schedule, daily operatory assignments, weekly/monthly departmental assignments.
3. Participate in Supervisor Meetings representing the Dental department ensuring that the EFDA team receives all information in consideration of Leadership, Quantros, Healthstream, PolicyStat, Safety and Risk Meetings.
4. Run a monthly EFDA staff meeting with agenda and minutes, with attention to ongoing issues, areas of improvement needed, as well as praise.
5. Monitor the department to ensure it is stocked with all necessary supplies. Aiding in the ordering of supplies, scheduling maintenance, and completing Purchase Requisitions as needed.
6. Establish and maintain respectful and professional relationships with patients and serve their needs by assisting the dental team in providing excellent patient care and customer service.
7. Ensures Dental Department is following AAAHC guidelines and recommendations that pertain to dental and Yellowhawk in general.
8. Ensure dental staff participation in a variety of clinic wide meetings to integrate, communicate, and collaborate with all departments.
9. Along with the Dental Administrator, responsible for ensuring staff manage their programs within the budget (dental supplies, lab fees, scrubs, travel, advertising, etc.)
10. Along with the Dental Administrator, identify areas for improvement and conduct quality improvement studies to evaluate the effectiveness of current policies, procedures, and practices in achieving desired outcomes.
11. Establish and maintain respectful and professional relationships with all members of the dental team and all Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center employees.
12. Specific duties include but are not limited to setting up equipment for patient treatment, assisting the dentist during treatment, fabricating temporary crowns, clean-up, capturing radiographs of good diagnostic quality, and sterilizing instruments.
13. Place pit and fissure sealants; place and remove dental dams, place and remove various types of matrix retainers for restorations.
14. Take alginate impressions, pour, trim models, and fabricate customer trays.
15. Apply temporary soft relines for full dentures.
16. Work with children and perform prophylaxis, oral hygiene instruction, nutritional counseling and fluoride varnish applications within the EFDA scope of practice.
17. Provide instructions and education to patients on all aspects of preventative oral care, brushing, and flossing techniques.
18. Accurately record and code appointment information using dental software.
19. Strictly follow all sterilization and infection control protocols.
20. Must maintain continued education requirements for Expanded Functions Dental Assistant certification.
21. Works directly with Dental Administrator on job performance improvements, work assignments, and scheduling days off.
22. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma/Equivalent.
2. Must provide Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certificate.
3. Must hold a Certificate of Radiologic Proficiency.
4. At least three yearsâ excellent supervisory experience.
5. Dentrix, Dexis, Word processing, Excel, Outlook and other related computer experience.
6. Current BLS certification.
7. Must possess a valid driverâs license and maintain insurance requirements to operate General Services Administration vehicles.
8. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check.
9. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) Certificate.
2. 5 yearsâ successful experience as a Certified Dental Assistant.
