Job description
We are seeking a motivated, compassionate, and detail-oriented individual to join our dental team as a Dental Back Assistant. The primary responsibility of the Back Assistant is to support the dentist and dental hygienist in performing dental procedures, maintaining patient comfort, and ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow in the clinical area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and assist during dental procedures, including fillings, crowns, cleanings, extractions, and other treatments.
Ensure patients are comfortable, provide reassurance, and explain procedures before and during treatment.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sterilization for all dental instruments and equipment in compliance with safety and infection control guidelines.
Set up dental operatory before patient appointments, ensuring all necessary instruments and materials are sterile and ready.
Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as required, ensuring proper technique and safety protocols are followed.
Accurately chart patient information, medical history, and treatment details in the dental management system. Update patient records as required.
Monitor and manage dental supplies inventory, ensuring adequate stock of materials, instruments, and medications.
Assist with the preparation of impressions, molds, and other dental materials for lab work, including temporary crowns or dentures.
Provide patients with post-operative instructions and care sheets, ensuring they understand how to manage their recovery at home.
Work closely with the front desk and other team members to schedule appointments, manage patient flow, and ensure the office runs smoothly.

Educational Requirements, Qualifications, and Trainings

High school diploma or equivalent required; Dental Assisting certification preferred.
X-ray License
Previous experience as a Dental Assistant or Back Office Assistant in a dental practice is a plus.
Familiarity with dental terminology, procedures, and instruments.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to put patients at ease and work collaboratively with the team.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of patient care and treatment documentation.
Ability to stand for long periods, assist patients with mobility needs, and manage the physical demands of the role.

Computer and Software Requirements

Dentrix Ascend preferred.
Working knowledge of ADP
Ability to operate media equipment such as tablets, smartphones, and other electronic equipment
Ability to work with general office equipment
Ability to work with and understand databases a must and the ability to learn technical skills

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Shall have essential physical skills; be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift at least 50 pounds (or ¼ of body weight).
Shall have adequate vision, reading, writing, documentation skills and hearing required to perform the essential functions of the job.
Must have enough endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
