Position Summary:

Akicita Federal is seeking a skilled and compassionate Dental Assistant to join our team at the Sisseton IHS Service Unit. The ideal candidate will support dental staff in providing high-quality oral healthcare services to the Native American community. This role is critical to ensuring efficient, patient-centered dental operations and supporting the overall mission of the Indian Health Service.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare dental operatory with necessary instruments and materials for each patient visit.
Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures, including general, pediatric, and preventive dentistry.
Take and process digital dental radiographs (X-rays).
Maintain patient comfort and safety throughout procedures.
Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment in compliance with infection control protocols.
Record treatment information in patient records using Electronic Dental Records (EDR).
Provide patients with oral hygiene instructions and post-treatment care guidance.
Manage dental supply inventory and notify staff of low stock or needed equipment.
Ensure clinical areas meet all cleanliness and safety standards.
Collaborate with the dental team and support administrative duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED

Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential preferred

Completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program or equivalent work experience

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (must be current and valid)

Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA standards, including infection control practices
Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity to the Native American population
Ability to pass a federal background check and drug screening
