Thriving Smiles Pediatric Dentistry is a doctor-owned, single location practice that has been open since September 2023 and is growing quickly. This position is part time 2-3 days a week with the potential for full time in the future as the practice expands days and hours.
Job Description:
1. Patient Care and Education
Conduct dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and applying fluoride treatments.
Educate children and their parents/guardians on proper oral hygiene practices.
Provide guidance on the use of various dental products .
Address age-specific dental health concerns.
2. Assessment and Examination
Perform initial dental examinations and screenings, noting findings and communicating them with the doctor.
Take digital dental X-rays to assist in diagnosing oral health conditions.
Collaborate with pediatric dentists to create personalized treatment plans for patients.
3. Behavior Management
Create a child-friendly and welcoming environment to alleviate dental anxiety.
Use techniques like distraction, positive reinforcement, and tell-show-do methods to help children feel comfortable during procedures.
4. Preventive Care
Apply sealants
Educate families about preventive measures, such as reducing sugar intake and scheduling regular hygiene appointments.
5. Team Collaboration
Work closely with pediatric dentist, dental assistants, and administrative team to ensure efficient patient care.
Communicate with parents/guardians about treatment plans, dental conditions, and necessary follow-up care.
6. Record Maintenance
Document patient history, dental treatments, and progress in electronic health records.
Maintain updated charts and ensure compliance with privacy regulations like HIPAA.
7. Special Needs Dentistry
Provide tailored care for children with special needs, adapting techniques to accommodate physical, developmental, or emotional challenges.
8. Infection Control and Safety
Follow strict sterilization protocols for dental instruments and equipment.
Adhere to OSHA and CDC guidelines for infection control to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
9. Professional Development
Stay informed about the latest advancements in pediatric dentistry, oral health techniques, and child psychology.
Attend continuing education courses to maintain licensure and certifications.
Attend and contribute to any in-office trainings
10. Community Outreach
Participate in educational programs to promote oral health awareness in schools, daycare centers, and community events.
Assist in organizing dental health campaigns targeting children and families.
This role requires strong interpersonal skills, patience, and an understanding of childrenâs unique dental and emotional needs. Most pediatric dental hygienists must also meet state licensing requirements, which often include passing a dental hygiene exam and obtaining CPR certification.

Pay: From $41.00 per hour
