Part-Time Pediatric Dental Assistant (Saturdays) Location: Brooker Memorial, Torrington CT Status: Part-time, non-exempt Reports to: Dental Director
Job Summary:
Brooker Memorial is seeking a Part-Time Pediatric Dental Assistant to join our team on Saturdays. This role is ideal for a compassionate and skilled dental assistant who enjoys working with children in a fun, friendly, and patient-focused environment. The Pediatric Dental Assistant will provide chairside support to the dentist, ensure a positive experience for young patients, and maintain a safe and clean clinical environment in accordance with infection control protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet patients and escort them to the treatment area.
Assist the dentist with various procedures, including restorative, surgical, endodontic, pediatric, emergency, and preventive treatments.
Comfort and reassure children before, during, and after dental procedures.
Take and develop dental X-rays following radiation safety guidelines.
Maintain accurate patient records and document treatment progress.
Sterilize instruments and follow proper infection control procedures.
Educate patients and caregivers on oral hygiene and preventive care.
Manage patient behavior using age-appropriate techniques and positive reinforcement.
Ensure a clean, organized, and child-friendly dental environment.
Assist in the administration of nitrous oxide and monitor vital signs.
Explain treatment consents, answer parent questions, and obtain parental signatures.
Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the dental team.
Participate in required OSHA, HIPAA, and other compliance training.
Qualifications & Skills:
X-ray certified and infection control certified (required).
Completion of a dental assistant training program or certification (CDA or RDA) preferred.
Previous experience in a pediatric or general dental setting is a plus.
Knowledge of dental instruments, procedures, and sterilization techniques.
Ability to work well with children and create a positive, stress-free experience.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with dental software.
Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.
Schedule & Compensation:
Hours: Saturdays only from 7:45 AM â 2:15 PM
Pay Rate: $20 - $25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
