Job Overview:
The dental hygienist is responsible for assisting in the prevention of dental diseases by performing routine cleaning, scaling, and polishing of teeth. They work with patients to promote good oral hygiene and educate them on proper oral care. The role may also involve administrative duties like documenting patient records, taking X-rays, and sterilizing instruments.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Clean and polish teeth by removing plaque, tartar, and stains.
Apply fluoride treatments and sealants.
Conduct routine oral health exams, noting any signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis or periodontitis.
Take dental X-rays (as needed)
Screen patients for oral diseases and disorders (e.g., gum disease, cavities).
Patient Education:
Educate patients about good oral hygiene practices, including proper brushing and flossing techniques.
Advise patients on diet and its impact on oral health.
Recommend dental products (e.g., toothpaste, mouthwash) based on individual patient needs.
Documentation and Recordkeeping:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
Document procedures performed and any changes in the patient's oral health.
Track and report on patient progress and treatment outcomes.
Collaboration and Support:
Work with other dental professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Ensure all equipment is properly sterilized and maintained.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Associateâs degree in dental hygiene or completion of a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
Licensing: Current state licensure as a dental hygienist.
Experience: Prior experience in a dental office is preferred, but not always required.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of dental hygiene procedures, tools, and equipment.
Ability to educate patients effectively and provide clear instructions.
Excellent communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized.
Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Manual dexterity to operate dental instruments.
Good vision and ability to focus on fine details.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
