Job Description

Qualifications and Experience:
1. Possess at minimum a high school diploma or its equivalent, bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. Previous experience in oral/dental health preferred.
3. Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Must clear a Level 2 Background Check.
5. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
6. Ability to function independently.
7. Ability to work flexible hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist the dentist and dental staff with taking molds/dental impressions and take and develop x-rays
2. Interact with and attend to patients before, during and after appointments
3. Order supplies, answer phones and schedule appointments for dental services.
4. Gathers and records the patient’s medical history
5. Take and record vital signs during each visit
6. Ensure that patients are comfortable and relaxed during the visit.
7. Provides assistance to the dentist during procedures
8. Utilize suction hoses as well as other dental equipment to keep the mouth of the patient dry.
9. Teach patients about oral hygiene as instructed by the dentist.
10. Enhances the patient/family/significant other(s) role by promoting healthy lifestyles.
11. Selects, adapts, and individualizes patient education information for the patient/family by evaluating available brochures, printed materials, video tapes, and external resources in light of the age, culture, religious practices, and language of the patient/family/significant other(s).
12. Documents patient care services by completing charting in patient and department records.
13. Identifies future patient education requirements by maintaining rapport with potential and actual clients and other persons in a position to understand emerging patient education requirements; identifying community and other resources.
14. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
15. Perform other duties as requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
2. Knowledge of basic office procedures.
3. Knowledge of clinical/dental terminology.
4. Knowledge of biology and health sciences.
5. Proficient in planning, teaching and relaying clinical information.
6. Comfortable working with computers and databases
7. Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous, and effective manner.
8. Ability to interview well and listen effectively.
9. Ability to present patients with health education materials in a clear manner.
10. Ability to work as a team member.
11. Ability to work without supervision.
Physical Demands
Requires standing, moving and sitting. Bending, stretching or lifting may be required. Contact with individuals with communicable diseases. Requires the ability to work under stressful conditions. Ability to document a physical assessment in EMR and use of telephone and other office equipment such as copier and fax. Requires ability to drive to patient location and to negotiate steps, walkways and housing generally not designed for handicap access. Will need to be dressed in full PPE (provided) while providing patient care.
Working Conditions
Patient living environment. Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in living environment. Will be provided with all necessary safety precautions including PPE and sanitization.
