Familiarize yourself with each patient's chart prior to greeting the patient. Note whether all previously recommended treatment has been done.
Maintain good communication with all patients by greeting them and making sure they know who you are.
Ensure that each patient's medical and dental history is updated and discuss any appropriate points with the patient.
Ask the patient if he/she has been having any dental difficulties.
Answer any questions the patient may have about having x-rays taken. Respect patient privacy when discussing personal issues.
Take any needed x-rays.
Perform a standard inspection for decay, and oral lesions and chart the pocket depth.
While performing your inspection, talk to the patient about what you are finding. Explain how these conditions develop (e.g. lack of consistent flossing leads to gum disease).
Perform a standard scaling and polishing.
Record all appropriate information in the patient's chart.
Let the Doctor know when the patient is ready for the examination. Avoid talking over the Dr. when he is with the patient. Allow the patient time with Dr, giving him opportunity to address their concerns.
Inform the Doctor of any conditions you have noted. Help “sell” the dentistry.
Instruct patients in:
proper brushing flossing perio aids
disclosing methods water jets stimulators
flossing aids nutrition
Present appropriate literature to patients.
Remain in the operatory during the Doctor's exam and chart treatment as recommended by the Doctor.
Complete the cleaning, give a brief recap of the home care instructions and provide a new toothbrush and floss for the patient.
Avoiding addressing insurance concerns. Refer insurance questions to account manage
Escort the patient to reception to schedule the next visit.
Clean and set up the operatory for the next patient.
Maintain the cleanliness of the operatory at all times.
Maintain the inventory for the operatory by restocking items and seeing to it that necessary supplies are ordered.
Keep all instruments sharpened and oil handpieces.
Contribute at staff meetings.
Help out on recall during any slow periods or as necessary to keep the hygiene schedule booked up.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $40.00 - $43.65 per hour
