DENTAL CONSULTANT
The Organization
North Los Angeles County Regional Center “NLACRC” is a private, non-profit agency that is contracted with the State of California, Department of Developmental Services, to provide services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. NLACRC is one of the largest regional centers in California and has proudly served the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Antelope Valley since 1974. We serve individuals across the lifespan from infants and toddlers, school age children, transition-age youth, to adults and aging adults.
SUPERVISION: Receive general supervision from the Medical Services Manager.
The Position and Job Summary:
Provides clinical consultation, education, and outreach regarding dental needs to consumers and their families, along with Regional Center staff and community organizations who serve individuals with developmental disabilities. Provides technical assistance and quality assurance to vendor dental providers.

Consultation and clinical review of dental treatment proposals to assess dental necessity, standard of care, cost effectiveness, and appropriateness to meet routine and specialized dental care needs as per Lanterman act guidelines.
Consultation with consumers, families and service providers regarding consumer dental needs and identifying generic and vendor resources to meet dental needs.
Conducts assessments within scope of expertise in various community settings to ensure that health and safety needs are addressed. No direct dental care is performed.
Participates in interdisciplinary consultations and meetings with clinicians and Consumer Services Coordinators.
Provides expert review, consultation, testimony, and complaint resolution as part of due process proceedings as relevant to dental care and scope of expertise.
Provides technical assistance, and quality assurance of vendor dental providers and assistance with complaint resolution as applicable.
Collaborates and meets with external community partners, such as health plans, and governmental agencies as relevant to scope of expertise.
Provides training/ education/ community outreach on dental health, hygiene for regional center staff, community organizations, service providers, families, consumers.
Participates with Quality Assurance and Risk management teams to assist Regional Center in protecting the health and welfare of consumers.
Travels to visit consumers and service providers in a variety of community settings on a timely basis, using reliable transportation.
Other duties may be assigned.
Full/Part Time no less than 24 hours

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not supervise other NLACRC employees.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Completion of Accredited/ California Board approved Registered Dental Hygienist or Registered Dental Assistant program.
Five (5) years of related, professional experience providing direct dental care. Experience working with special needs dentistry and/or developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE and/or SKILLS

Knowledge of best practice for dental treatment principles and procedures.
General understanding of dental billing practice and procedures.
Ability to work collaboratively in team-oriented environment.
Ability to present, train and teach professionals, families, consumers, community providers.
Microsoft Office and related applications

LICENSES and/or CERTIFICATES

A current, unrestricted California Registered Dental Assistant License (RDA/ RDAEF)

OR

A current, unrestricted California Registered Dental Hygienist License (RDH/ RDHEF/ RDHAP)

AND

Valid California Driver's License.

Compensation
This position is non-exempt. Annual Salary Range: $78,098.80 - $110,344.00
