Job Summary:
The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) will provide chairside assistance to dentists in a correctional facility, ensuring efficient and high-quality dental care for incarcerated individuals. The RDA will perform dental procedures under supervision, maintain sterilization standards, and ensure compliance with Correctional Facilities and Rehabilitation guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Assistance
Assist dentists with examinations, treatments, and procedures such as fillings, extractions, and cleanings.
Prepare patients for dental procedures and provide post-treatment instructions.
Take and process dental X-rays in compliance with radiation safety protocols.
Maintain accurate patient records and charting in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Instrument & Equipment Management
Sterilize and organize dental instruments, following infection control and OSHA regulations.
Set up and break down treatment areas before and after patient visits.
Ensure dental equipment is maintained and report any malfunctions.
Administrative & Compliance Duties
Adhere to state and federal guidelines for dental care in correctional facilities.
Assist in managing dental supplies and inventory control.
Follow strict security protocols while working within the correctional facility environment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting program.
Current Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license from the Dental Board of California.
CPR/BLS certification from an approved provider.
Experience & Skills:
Minimum 1 year of experience in a dental office or clinical setting (preferably in corrections, public health, or institutional care).
Strong knowledge of dental procedures, infection control, and sterilization techniques.
Ability to work in a structured and secure environment.
Proficiency in dental software and electronic health records.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Work Environment:
Must be able to work in a secured correctional facility.
Direct interaction with inmates under supervision of security staff.
Adherence to strict facility protocols, including controlled movement and restricted access areas.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
