What the job entails
As stated previously, Hygienists have many responsibilities, including patient care, administrative tasks, and maintaining a safe and clean environment:

Patient care

Hygienists work closely with our patients. They are expected to be "on" throughout the working day, so a social personality is a must. Hygienists provide patient care by taking X-rays and reviewing them for signs of dental diseases, screening patients during checkups, reviewing a patient’s dental history, recommending care to improve a patient’s oral health, teaching patients about proper teeth cleaning techniques, performing preventive dental care, applying fluoride treatments, and more. Hygienists play an important role in patient education and relationship management.

Administrative tasks

Hygienists schedule appointments, update medical records, chart existing/needed/completed treatment, ensure patients are receiving routine preventative care, and manage correspondence with specialists. They also review the day's schedule to plan room setups and determine where help is needed, to ensure a smooth workday.

Maintaining a safe and clean environment

Hygienists sterilize dental equipment, treatment rooms, and work areas, in compliance with OSHA standards. They maintain orderly clinical rooms and supply closets. Hygienists ensure that they have everything they may need when completing treatment, by preparing the clinical room prior to starting. They receive training in emergency response to keep our patients and employees safe.
