Job Description
Lewisburg, WV Dental Hygienist needed 2-4 days per week to help treat patients and promote good oral health practices in our busy Ronceverte, WV practice. Duties revolve around conducting initial patient screenings, Cleaning teeth and examine oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. Educate patients on oral hygiene, take and develop X-rays, or apply fluoride or sealants. Youâll help dentist decide treatments for teeth or gum diseases and handle dental emergencies. As a Dental Hygienist, you should be reliable and able to build trust with patients of all ages. You should have deep knowledge of relevant health and safety rules and a good eye for oral diseases and anomalies. Benefits included.
Responsibilities
Ensure patients feel as comfortable as possible before their examination
Sterilize dental instruments properly
Conduct initial mouth screenings and check oral health history
Identify conditions like gingivitis, caries or periodontitis
Clean and help protect patientsâ teeth (e.g. remove plaque, apply fluoride or sealants)
Educate patients of all ages on proper teeth care (by demonstrating, for example, good brushing techniques)
Give instructions to patients after operations or other dental procedures
Take X-rays or dental impressions
Assist dentists with selecting appropriate treatments for various diseases (including oral cancer)
Maintain documentation and charts on each patient
Monitor supplies
Knowledge in dental software
Intra-oral scanning
Sleep screenings
Skills
Proven experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist
In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g. HIPAA, Infection Control)
Experience in preparing and maintaining dental equipment
Outstanding communication skills
A patient and friendly personality
Attention to detail
Stamina to meet the physical demands of the job
Diploma in Dental Hygiene
Valid license to practice in WV
Administer local anesthetic agents.
Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments.
Conduct dental health clinics for community groups to augment services of dentist.
Examine gums, using probes, to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.
Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease.
Feel lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer.
Maintain dental equipment and sharpen and sterilize dental instruments.
Maintain patient recall system.
Record and review patient medical histories.
Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth.
Discuss various treatment options with patients
Record treatment plans for patients
