Job Description
The Dental Assistant prepares for oral examinations and assists the dentists, dental therapists and dental hygienists, in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth and gums. Dental Assistants also carry out chair-side and receptionist duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Greet patients and prepare them for necessary dental procedures.
Offers assistance and/or instruction to patients.
Protects privacy of the patient and maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA and MHC policies and procedures.
Prepares patient for examination/treatment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Assists dental provider during procedures by providing instruments and dispensing dental materials as directed.
Practices good aseptic techniques and complies with infection control regulations.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment in accordance with applicable clinical standards.
Operates dental equipment according to protocol to achieve optimum results.
Provides pre- and post-operative instructions for patients undergoing general or local anesthesia.
Orders and re-stocks dental supplies.
Makes appointments for patients, keeps records of patientsâ treatments and sends out reminders for re-examinations.
Registers and checks-in patients.
Maintains patient files as necessary.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Diploma/degree from an accredited dental program.
Current licensure as a Registered Dental Assistant required.
CPR Certification required.
1 year of dental experience preferred.
