Position Requirements

Current license in South Dakota

Responsibilities Include:

Prepares patient for dental hygiene treatment by welcoming, seating and draping patient
Breaking down and setting up rooms prior to treatment
Patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions, update health history, oran cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting and taking blood pressure and pulse
Detects disease by completing oral cancer screening; feeling and visually examining gums, using probes to locate periodontal disease and to assess levels of recession; exposing and developing radiographic studies
Completes dental prophylaxis by removing calculus and plaque from all surfaces of the teeth by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and beneath gum margins
Apply preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides)
Teaching patient's appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health
Document dental hygiene services by recording vital signs and medical and dental histories; charting in patient records
Maintain instrumentation for dental hygiene treatment
Demonstrate superior knowledge of all equipment, instrument and supplies
Order instruments, equipment, supplies, and other items necessary for clinic operations
Cleaning, sterilization, and maintaining of equipment and instruments
Complying with sterilization and infection control protocols
Collection and preparation for disposal of medical waste
