Supports the dental team in providing high-quality care to patients undergoing procedures with general anesthesia. This role involves preparing patients, assisting during procedures, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment. This position requires the flexibility to travel to one or more locations as needed, ensuring consistent support across all practices.
Responsibilities:
â Provide chairside assistance to pediatric dentists during various dental procedures, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow
â Prepare, organize, and maintain dental instruments, materials, and equipment for patient appointments
â Foster a positive and comforting environment for pediatric patients, addressing any concerns and establishing trust
â Capture dental X-rays under the dentist's guidance, adhering to all safety protocols
â Educate parents and guardians on proper oral hygiene practices for children and deliver clear post-operative care instructions
â Maintain accurate and current patient records, including treatment plans, charting, and progress notes
â Uphold stringent infection control standards by sterilizing and disinfecting dental instruments, equipment, and treatment areas
â Collaborate with front office staff for appointment scheduling, insurance benefits, and patients needs
â Manage inventory of dental supplies and equipment
â Ensure a clean and organized work environment, contributing to a safe and welcoming atmosphere for both patients and staff.
â Demonstrate flexibility by traveling to various practice locations as required
Prepare treatment rooms for dental procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment and materials are ready.
Assist the dentist and anesthesiologist during procedures, including monitoring patientsâ vital signs and anesthesia levels.
Provide pre- and post-operative care instructions to patients and their families.
Maintain a sterile environment by following infection control protocols.
Document patient information, treatment plans, and anesthesia records accurately.
Ensure all anesthesia equipment is properly maintained and stocked.
Comfort and reassure patients before, during, and after procedures.
Collaborate with the dental and medical teams to ensure seamless patient care.
Qualifications:
â Successful completion of CDA or EFDA CODA accredited program or 2 years of dental
assisting experience
â Coronal Polishing certificate or willing to obtain
â Nitrous Oxide certificate or willing to obtain
â Knowledge of dental anatomy and terminology
â Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
â Proficiency in Curve dental software (preferred)
â Experience working with pediatric patients (preferred)
Experience with general anesthesia procedures in a dental setting is highly desirable.
â Bilingual is a plus!
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle stressful situations with professionalism.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods.
Manual dexterity and precision in handling instruments.
Ability to lift and move patients as needed.
Work Environment:
Dental office and outpatient surgery center.
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials.
