Job Description
Position Summary
In accordance with the plans and policies of Tampa Family Health Center, Inc. the Dental Assistant performs those duties which assist the CDO, Dentists, and Hygienists in the care and treatment of patients, performs duties in the field of reception, chairside assisting, inventory, and records. Performs all duties according to Florida statute as it pertains to dental assisting.
Essential Duties & Functions
Assists the dentists and hygienists in chairside procedures routinely done in a general dental practice.
Responsible for preparation and setting up of instruments, materials, and equipment necessary for each procedure.
Responsible for the sterilization of instruments and hand pieces, cleaning and routine maintenance of instruments, hand pieces, equipment, and work areas.
Performs routine reception work including scheduling and rescheduling patients, recording demographic and medical information in patient records, greeting and seating of patient.
Helps with submission of pre-authorizations for contracted dental insurances and records data in patientâs chart.
Helps to coordinate dental cases pickups and deliveries with contracted dental labs.
Helps to identify related medical and/or social problems and discusses with the dentist.
Possesses an ability and willingness to learn.
Able to establish and maintain effective communication with patients and coworkers. Able to communicate in English with the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Maintain effective and positive working relationships with patients and staff with the ability to motivate patients.
Helps to identify need for supplies, materials, equipment. Helps with ordering process of dental supplies.
Helps to coordinate maintenance and equipment service requests from dental service company
Dental bus requires traveling and visiting local schools. After completing duties on dental bus, will be required to return to FAHC to assist on floor
This position requires traveling to cover different locations when needed.
Performs other duties as assigned by CDO or Dentist.

Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Training (minimum requirements)
Graduate of a recognized technical school with an approved Dental Assistants Program with Florida Certification for Expanded Functions
Graduation from high school or an approved GED Program is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Open to new graduates, must have completed externship in person
Maintain a current CPR Certification
Expanded Functions Dental Assistance Certificate (EFDA)
Graduate of a recognized technical school with an approved Dental Assistants Program
Certificate in Dental Radiology
