Job Description
Job Summary:
Assists dentist at chairside during examination and treatment of patients. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and adult patients in regard to their growth and development process. The position actively supports the hospitals and the departments Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service goals, individually and as an effective team member.
Essential Job Functions:
Assures dental equipment in clinic are in working order.
Huddles with assigned dentist to review schedule for the day.
Prepares and arranges dental instruments, materials, and medications on chairside tray in the order to be used, according to the scheduled treatment.
Escorts patients from the waiting room to the dental operatory and prepares patient for dental visit. Dismissed patient after appointment is completed.
Reviews diet and oral hygiene with patient and parents. Gives oral hygiene instructions.
Takes periapical, bitewing, and CBCT x-rays.
Four hand assists dentist and orthodontist during procedures.
Maintains adequate infection control according to Lurie policy.
Maintain water purification system as assigned.
Takes orthodontic records including, impressions, photos, and panoramic/CBCT x-rays. Performs orthodontic adjustments as instructed by the orthodontist.
Prepares impression to be sent to lab and assist with delivery.
Requires the ability to travel to surgical sites - downtown Chicago main campus, Westchester, and Northbrook surgical centers.
Assists with dental cases performed under general anesthesia.
Performs patient support clerical activities as assigned.
Assists in orienting new/contingent dental assistant staff as assigned.
Participates in department process improvement activities including monthly staff meetings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of an approved dental assistant program is preferred.
Minimum one year experience in private practice.
Pediatric dental experience is preferred.
Some computer skills required.
Certified CPR through American Heart Association required.
Ability to travel to different sites as needed.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.

High School Diploma/GED (Required)
(BLS) - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
