POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dental Assistant Trainer will be responsible for providing comprehensive training and development to dental assisting staff. Works under the direction of a qualified professional dentist or dental hygienist. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the dental assisting program, within the objectives, standards and policies of the department, and within the parameters of the position. Performs a wide variety of challenging and technical duties, cooperates with the members of the dental staff and other center departments, and is committed to fostering professional growth and excellence in the field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Improve, update, implement, and oversee dental assisting training program for new and existing dental assistants.
Provide hands-on training, simulation, and demonstrations of all aspects of dental assisting including: time management, documentation, charting, acquiring x-rays, all dental procedures, instrument handling, equipment usage, infection control protocols, etc.
Create and update training materials and manuals to reflect current best practices and technological advancements.
Conduct regular evaluations of dental assistants' skills and performance through direct observation and simulated practice scenarios, providing constructive feedback and guidance for clinical improvement.
Maintain accurate records of training activities, attendance, and evaluations.
Provide monthly progress report, clinical outcomes data, and patient feedback to Chief Dental Officer/Dental Practice Manager.
Use clinical outcomes data and patient feedback to assess the effectiveness of training programs and identify areas for improvement.
Implement quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing clinical outcomes, patient safety, and overall service delivery to patients.
Stay updated on state and federal regulations, as well as industry standards, to ensure compliance and quality care.
Collaborate with dental leadership to identify training needs and implement strategies to address gaps in knowledge or skills.
Communicate effectively with dentists, dental hygienists, and lead dental assistant to ensure cohesive patient care, efficient practice operation, enhanced teamwork, and patient satisfaction.
Foster a supportive and positive learning environment that encourages continuous professional development and conduct.
Oversee the inventory and maintenance of training equipment, supplies, and educational materials.
Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of new dental assistants. Build professional relationships within the dental community to share knowledge and best practices.
Understand and maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
Identify and utilize appropriate channels of communication.
SUPPORTING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support duties such as assisting other members of the dental staff, stocking and cleaning exam rooms, cleaning, wrapping and autoclaving instruments, filing records, maintaining inventory, maintaining service record, maintaining sterilization log, monitoring safety issues such as fire extinguishers, spill kits, exit lights, eyewash station, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of chairside experience in a dental setting, with demonstrated expertise in dental radiography, various dental procedures, and technologies is required. 2-5 years of dental training or mentoring experience preferred. Must be proficient in the latest dental technologies and procedures. Working knowledge of computer required. Previous experience with dental software required.
Required Skills:
Proficient in dental radiography, infection control, and patient management.
Proficient in four handed dentistry.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively teach and motivate others.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Familiarity with electronic dental records (EDR) and practice management software is preferred.
Education, Certification and Licensure: High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of a dental assistant program preferred. Current Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) certification. 10 years of recent chairside and clinical experience can be substituted for DANB. Must have current CPR / BLS certificate.
Additional Skills & Knowledge: Bilingual preferred.

Work is performed in a healthcare clinic and office setting. ANHC is a tobacco-free campus.
