Duties and Responsibilities
Perform oral health assessments on new and returning patients, including dental history review, dental charting, and oral cancer screening.
Remove plaque and calculus from patients' teeth and apply preventive materials such as sealants and fluorides to the teeth.
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene strategies, including brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling.
Take digital dental radiographs (x-rays) to help in the diagnosis of dental problems.
Maintain documentation and charting on patients' oral health status and the care provided, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
Assess the overall condition of a patientâs oral cavity, noting the presence of diseases or abnormalities and reporting findings to the dentist.
Participate in the management of medical and dental emergencies that occur in the dental office.
Collaborate with dentists and other dental professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
Schedule and manage follow-up appointments to re-evaluate patientsâ oral health as part of ongoing care.
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work environment that adheres to safety protocols and procedures.
Requirements
Associate degree or higher in Dental Hygiene from an accredited institution.
Valid Dental Hygienist license applicable to the state in which our facility operates.
Current CPR certification.
Proficiency in the use of dental technology, including digital x-rays and electronic patient records.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure effective patient interactions and teamwork.
At least 1 year of clinical experience in a dental office environment.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong commitment to adhering to ethical practices and maintaining patient confidentiality.
Knowledge of dental health and safety regulations and the ability to implement these in all aspects of work.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
