Dental Assistant â Pediatric Clinic
âFollow Your Calling, Find Your Careerâ Salary Range: $20.00 - $23.60/hour This is a non-exempt (hourly) position Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicantâs salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job. Position Summary Provide paraprofessional dental work under the direct supervision of the attending dentists in the care and treatment of dental patients as allowed by the NC State Board of Dental Examiners. Essential Functions Schedule appointments, verify program eligibility and obtain insurance information for processing claims Determine treatment charges and input for billing Take and processes radiographs for dental assessment and/or diagnosis Assist with all chairside activities such as mixing medications, cements, alloys and materials, four-handed dentistry Maintain and sterilize all equipment used by staff Ensure sufficient supply of materials and equipment Assist with clinic readiness Record dentist information on charts and input information regarding oral findings, treatment plan, completed treatment and follow up care Assist in providing post-visit instructions and educational information regarding general dental health Assist in Operating Room setting for dental cases Mecklenburg County Health Department Employees: Respond in cases of urgent and/or emergent events that require public health interventions. Employees may be trained for and assigned duties unrelated to their regular work; work outside normal business hours and workdays and/or in a different work location may be required. Emergency events include, but are not limited to, communicable disease outbreaks, severe weather situations (e.g. snow or ice storms, tornados, hurricanes), natural disasters (e.g. earthquakes), fire, or power outages, and acts of terrorism. Minimum Qualifications Experience: Must qualify as a Dental Assistant II (DAII) in North Carolina in one of the following three ways: 1) By being a graduate from an ADA-accredited Dental Assistant Program with current CPR; OR 2) By successfully passing the Dental Assistant National Board (DANB), Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) examination with current CPR; OR 3) By successfully fulfilling other requirements of the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners to qualify as a Dental Assistant II (DAII) (a) full-time employment and experience as a chair side assistant for two years (3,000 hours) of the preceding five, during which period the assistant may be trained in any dental delivery setting and allowed to perform the functions of a Dental Assistant II under the direct control and supervision of a licensed dentist; b) a 3-hour course in sterilization and infection control; c) a 3-hour course in dental office emergencies; d) radiology training consistent with G.S. 90-29(s)(12);and e) current certification in CPR). One (1) year of Dental Assisting II experience in a Pediatric Dental setting required. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: N/A Licenses and Certifications Meets qualifications for Dental Assistant II in NC X-ray Certification Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association that is valid for at least 90 days after hire. Maintenance of this certification is required and as funds are available may be supported as part of employment.
