Job Description
Position Summary: The Dental Assistant II assists the dentist with examinations, treatments and procedures to maintain patient comfort, safety and to facilitate patient care. Performs specified procedures (as state regulations and the Kentucky Board of Dentistry allow) supervising dentist checks and approves all procedures prior to dismissal of the patient. Performs delegated patient care and administrative tasks necessary for the care of the patient.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Placement (condensation), carving and polishing of amalgam restorations.
Placement and finishing of composite resin restorations.
Application of topical anesthetic.
Application of bases and cavity liners.
Place matrix bands.
Remove excess cement from supragingival surfaces of teeth with a hand instrument or floss or from surfaces of teeth under orthodontic treatment.
Construct, place and remove temporary crowns.
Examine oral cavity (inspecting) for information gathering only.
Polish teeth and apply topical fluoride.
Make impressions for diagnostic casts, pour and trim.
Conduct diagnostic tests such as pulp testing, blood pressure, etc. as ordered by the dentist.
Operation of dental radiographic equipment for the purpose of oral radiography which requires proper patient positioning and application of radiation protection devices (requires proper certification).
Placement and removal of rubber dams.
Sealant application.
Suture removal.
Provide oral hygiene instructions.
Provide post-delivery instructions.
Assists the dentist with examinations, treatments and procedures.
Performs operatory and instrument preparation before and after each patient.
Seats patients from the waiting area and assists patients as needed in leaving the dental patient care area.
Performs procedures in the dental lab (eg. pouring models, fabrication of temporaries).
Packages and sterilizes instruments according to policy and procedure and prepares instruments to be sent to SPD for sterilization.
Maintains and stocks an adequate inventory of supplies.
Use Eaglesoft Dental Software to maintain appointment schedule and schedules patient appointments. Appointment scheduling process includes calling and confirming patient appointments, maintaining a patient appointment recall system, and tracking missed appointments for patient contact as deemed necessary by the dentist.
Use Eaglesoft Dental Software to accurately posts charges to patient accounts and collects fees for patient services.
Makes referral and/or consult appointments and schedules patients for outpatient procedures obtaining pre authorizations and/or pre-certifications for insurance purposes as appropriate.
Use Eaglesoft Dental Software to maintain patient records with complete, concise, and accurate information in order to provide a patient health history and continuity of care to the patient.
Uses proper telephone technique.
Cooperates with others in the clinic in completing tasks according to work routine so that work can be done in minimal time and be shared in order for all functions to be completed prior to the close of the workday.
Willing to accept additional clinic assignments when requested by Clinic Coordinator.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of approved radiation preparatory course required.
Experience:
2 years dental assisting experience required
Licensure/Certification:
CPR Certification and Dental X-Ray training required (both required after hire).
