Job Description

Statement of the Job: The University of Maine at Augusta's Bangor campus invites applications for a full time, two-year Fixed Length Lecturer of Dental Health. This is a nine-month (September through May) academic year appointment and will require an on-campus presence (Bangor Campus). The major duties of the position are teaching and advising students. Teaching assignments may include on campus didactic, preclinical, clinical and laboratory teaching in the Dental Hygiene Program. UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs; committed to innovative delivery of instruction and effective use of technology. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2025.

As a full-time faculty member, you will be expected to:

Prepare course syllabi, develop courses online in Brightspace (LMS), and create assessments of learning.
Support students in their learning and connect them to UMA resources as needed.
Advise students in the major.
Teach classes/labs/clinics each semester (fall & spring semesters/total 24 credits)
Participate in program meetings, UMA committees, community service and outreach, collaborate with peers across the University of Maine System (UMS), and involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment.

UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, associate, baccalaureate, and master's degrees. Programs are delivered on campus and using a network of University centers and sites across the state and internationally. The University offers general education and degree-specific courses using in-person, hyflex, distance synchronous, and online instruction. The successful candidate will be active in university service through student advising, curriculum development, committee activity, and community outreach. Qualifications:
Required:

Bachelor’s degree in health education, dental hygiene, or a related discipline
Maine RDH or IPDH or DMD/DDS license in good standing
Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical experience
Maine Local Anesthesia authority must be documented by the time of hire
Reliable car for transportation
A team-oriented self -starter with the ability to navigate challenges and pressures that come with teaching in a rigorous clinical program

Preferred:

Background and experience in dental public health/community dentistry.
Holds a master’s degree or higher in health, education or a related discipline or matriculated in a Master’s or Doctoral program of study.
Holds a current Dental Assisting Certification (CDA-DANB) or
Holds an Expanded Functions Dental Assisting (EFDA) License in Maine in good standing
Previous successful teaching experience in higher education teaching clinical/laboratory and didactic courses.
Embraces technology and has experience teaching and working in learning management systems (LMS).

Salary: A typical salary for this academic year appointment is in the low to mid 50's and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The university offers an excellent fringe-benefits package.
