SUMMARY Plans and administers Dental Hygiene program of library services by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. FUNCTION: The Program Director holds a twelve-month position and provides overall supervision and administration of the SPC Dental Hygiene Program


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Furthers the interests of the College and the College District.


Coordinates and administers the specific functions and activities of the Dental Hygiene Program.


Assists the Dean of Health Professions, Program Coordinators, and faculty in the planning and assessment of their areas of responsibility.


Assists with and provides feedback on the budgetary process in collaboration with the Dean of Health Professions, Program Coordinators, and faculty.


Interprets policy and procedural matters as they relate to the dental hygiene field.


Serves as a liaison officer in representing the college to area schools, colleges, universities, corporate partners, regulatory agencies and other constituents as assigned.


Provides leadership for dental hygiene program curriculum development and revision.


Identifies needs related to the division such as facilities, personnel, and operating funds.


Recommends appointment, promotions, and separation of dental hygiene program faculty members considering the contribution of the individual, as determined by institutional policy.


Provides for dental hygiene program evaluation and evaluation of faculty performance in accordance with institution policies.


Creates an environment conducive to an educationally sound division providing freedom for the faculty to develop their own courses within the framework of the program and institution philosophy.


Prepares and submits reports to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Commission on Dental Accreditation, and other agencies in a timely manner.


Responsible for ensuring compliance with dental hygiene program standards and accreditation requirements.


Serves as a permanent member of the following: Academic Council and Dental Hygiene Program Admissions/Academic Standards Committee. Responsible for assessing, planning, and operating program facilities. Facilitates faculty recruitment, as well as recommends appointment, promotions, and separation of dental hygiene program faculty members considering the contribution of the individual, as determined by institutional policy. Initiates program/departmental in-services and faculty development within the program/department. Responsible for coordinating, evaluating, and participating in determining admission criteria and procedures as well as student promotion and retention criteria.

DIRECT REPORTS: The following positions report directly to the Director of the Dental Hygiene Program: Dental Hygiene full time and part time faculty.

LICENSURE: Holds a current license or privilege to practice as a dental hygienist in the state of Texas


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises all professional librarians at all Library locations. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the college’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. LANGUAGE and COMMUNCIATION SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to effectively interface with all components of the college community. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts consistent with budget preparation. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Qualifications



EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE EDUCATION: Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education is required, or is in progress.

EXPERIENCE: The program Director must be a dental hygienist who is a graduate of a program accredited by CODA and possesses a masters or higher degree, or is currently enrolled in a masters or higher degree program, or a dentist who has a background in education and the professional experience necessary to understand and fulfill the program.
