Job Description
The Dentist is responsible for performing oral surgery and providing routine restorative care for patients, including repair and removal of teeth, diagnosing conditions and communicating with patients about how to best care for their oral health.
Graduate of accredited dentistry program and must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice dentistry in Virginia. Must adhere to guidelines of given primary care specialty for meeting re-certification requirements. Must meet annual primary care specialty continuing education medical education requirements (or those set forth by the ADA) and report to Human Resources. Must maintain DEA certification with reimbursement for these through ESRHS CME allowances. Provider must maintain updated copies of all of their licensures, certification and CME.
Planning, organizing and implementing dental programs and activities, supervising and assisting in training of dental staff, ability to work well in a leadership role with a cooperative effort with diverse groups of health professionals; ability to work independently and to make appropriate decisions which reflect professional strength, confidence and integrity.
Dentist must have basic computer competencies in order to effectively use electronic health and digital radiography systems.
Must maintain current CPR for all life cycles.
Must demonstrate excellent internal and external customer service skills.
Employee must demonstrate an understanding of the intent, and follow standards, guidelines and protocols related to achieving and maintaining certifications by outside agencies.
Must demonstrate personal and professional commitment to the mission of Eastern Shore Rural Health System, Inc. as expressed in the Mission Statement.
Provides comprehensive, preventive and restorative dental services for children, and adults including exams, x-rays, sealants, prophylaxis and scaling, oral surgery, amalgam and composite restorations, endodontics, crowns, bridges, partial dentures and complete dentures.
Provides emergency dental services to all life cycles including prescriptions for infection and pain, extractions and restorations.
Provides program planning for ESRHS to insure proper preventive measures are initiated, monitored and evaluated for example: education programs regarding proper oral hygiene techniques, nutrition, and accident prevention.
Oversees dental staff including dental assistant, dental hygienist, and student dentist working with them on a daily basis and assists with performance evaluation annually. Ensures compliance with OSHA standards by staff.
Works with Chief Dental Officer, School Health Officials, health department personnel, local health professionals, school nurses and head start programs for community dental program planning and evaluation.
Completes and reviews patient history, records oral conditions, propose treatment plan and treatment completed on approved patient charts.
Maintains and enhances dental knowledge and skills by attending 15 hours of continuing dental education annually.
Represents ESRHS in the community through involvement in community activities that support the mission and philosophy of ESRHS.
