Job Summary:
As a Dental Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency of the dental office and the quality of patient care. Working closely with the dentist, you’ll help prepare patients, assist in procedures, and perform administrative tasks to maintain a smooth workflow. This role requires a blend of clinical expertise, communication skills, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:
Greet patients warmly and ensure their comfort before, during, and after procedures.
Review medical history and update patient records.
Educate patients on oral hygiene, aftercare, and preventative dental practices.
Chairside Assistance:
Assist the dentist during exams and procedures (e.g., handing instruments, suctioning, sterilizing tools).
Take and develop X-rays.
Prepare and mix materials such as dental fillings, cements, or impressions.
Ensure the dentist has the required tools and materials for each procedure.
Equipment and Sterilization:
Sterilize and disinfect instruments, equipment, and workspaces following strict infection control guidelines.
Set up and break down rooms for procedures.
Monitor and maintain dental supplies inventory and equipment functionality.
Administrative Duties:
Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
Handle billing, insurance claims, and payments.
Maintain accurate patient records and ensure HIPAA compliance.
Manage phone calls and inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
Specialized Support (if trained):
Perform coronal polishing or sealant application (in states where permitted).
Assist in advanced procedures such as oral surgery, orthodontics, or endodontics.

Skills and Qualifications:

Required:
High school diploma or GED.
Dental Assistant certification (e.g., Certified Dental Assistant - CDA) from a recognized program (varies by state).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
Preferred:
Radiography certification.
Experience with dental software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft).
Knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA compliance.

Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Manual dexterity and attention to detail.
A positive, patient-centered attitude and the ability to work as part of a team.

Work Environment:

Typically works in a dental office with exposure to medical tools, equipment, and chemicals.
Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
May involve standing or moving for extended periods.
