Job Summary
Two (2) positions will be filled by consideration of all applicants to this posting. Positions will be filled in either the Dentist or Advanced Dental Therapist job classification. The classification level (Dentist or Advanced Dental Therapist) in which the positions are filled will be determined based on the qualifications of the selected applicants. Positions will be filled at the following Minnesota Correctional Facilities (MCFs):
Rush City & Willow River/Moose Lake
St. Cloud
The Dentist and Advanced Dental Therapist provide comprehensive restorative and preventative dental care for incarcerated individuals. Dental procedures may include:
Radiographs
Administration of local anesthetic
Application of topical preventive or prophylactic agents
Placement of temporary restorations
Fabrication of soft occlusal guards
Tissue conditioning and soft reline
Atraumatic restorative therapy
Dressing changes
Tooth re-implantation
Oral hygiene instruction
Prophylaxis
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Dentist
Current licensure from the Minnesota Board of Dentistry to practice dentistry in Minnesota.
Applicants who meet the licensure requirements listed above will be further assessed on the following:
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of general dentistry.
Skill in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of dental diseases and injuries.
Considerable knowledge of recent developments in the field of general dentistry and the characteristics and usages of modern drugs.
Ability to establish and maintain a dental clinic environment.
Ability to provide leadership in working with incarcerated individuals.
Ability to supervise dental assistants and dental therapists in clinical dental practice.
Advanced Dental Therapist
Current licensure from the Minnesota Board of Dentistry to practice dental therapy in Minnesota plus certification as an Advanced Dental Therapist.
Applicants who meet the licensure requirements listed above will be further assessed on the following:
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of general dentistry.
Skill in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of dental diseases and injuries.
Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
Current licensure from the Minnesota Board of Dentistry to practice dentistry in Minnesota.
Physical Requirements
The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance. The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. For a copy of the PDA, please email Katie Wynn (Katie.Wynn@state.mn.us).
Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Correctionsââ¬â¢ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Correctionsââ¬â¢ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) does not participate in E-Verify. The DOC will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
