Job Description

Job OverviewThe Dental Assistant, in order to empower patients to have healthy mouths that support good mental health and consistent with the Mission and Values of Spring Grove Hospital Center, assists the dentist to provide general dental services. Many other essential office functions are performed.
Responsibilities
1. Chair-side assisting in the laboratory following standards of dental policies and procedure to improve oral conditions of Spring Grove Hospital Center (SGHC) patients.
2. Performs infection control procedures in the Dental Clinic and on Wards, to prevent SGHC clients and staff infections and cross contamination, by applying the infection control standards of the Hospital and Dental Clinic.
3. Arranges for specialty referral services through complex and off-grounds facilities, to obtain dental treatment not provided by this facility.
4. Organizes charts and dental records, facilitating efficient delivery of dental services, making higher quality of dental care possible.
5. Makes dental appointments and maintains a complex patient appointment schedule, to provide orderly and timely delivery of dental care, resulting in minimal delay of patient services and better utilization of escort staff.
6. Records infection control logs, by
making regular observations of infection control procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years of experience in work assisting in the care, treatment, habilitation or rehabilitation of patients and/or clients that are aged, physically ill, have behavioral health diagnoses, or have intellectual or developmental disabilities in treatment facilities or community based programs.
Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nursing Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Nursing OR within sixty days from the date of hire and prior to performing delegated nursing tasks, must have successfully completed a Board of Nursing approved Nursing Assistant training program and received certification as a Nursing Assistant from the Board of Nursing.
