2 days per week for the core hours of 8am-3pm
Duties and Responsibilities of Hygienist:
Review hygiene schedule for the day with the Periodontist
Review patientââ¬â¢s chart for proper care to include: health history assessment, intra-oral assessment, perio assessment including pocket depth assessment, recession, furcation involvement, mobility, record bleeding / suppuration / heavy plaque
Radiographs to be completed initially or updated every 18 months or obtain from dentist for patient records
Perform Periodontal Maintenance Therapy for definitive treatment recommendations such as: scale and root planning / arestin / surgical recommendations
Review and teach the patient the recommended homecare treatment
Educate the patient of the process of periodontal disease / dental disease / oral cancer / smoking cessation and other valuable information as appropriate
Inform and educate the patient the connection between oral health / oral disease and overall health
Documentation of patient care to include: new findings and/or recommendations / level of homecare / any use of nitrous, topical and/or local anesthesia / placement of arestin
Other Duties of Hygienist:
Clean instruments in ultrasonic and bag for sterilization and follow infection control protocols while maintaining a clean, sterile work environment
Prepare Supportive Periodontal Maintenance Therapy Memo (SPT) to be completed on all patients who alternate their visits with our office / Fast Track SPTs on patients who need urgent restorative care with their referring dentist / List of SPTs for each doctor to be given to them for their review each month / Indicate on the list of SPTs for each doctor IF X-Rays need to be sent
Anesthetize surgery patients when there is a cancellation or as time permits
Order nitrous and/or oxygen tanks when they need refilled
Keep track of hygiene supply orders, especially the bundle with Crest/Oral-B
Restock the hygiene room
Participate in agency committees and task force activities and attend staff meetings and in-service meetings.
Hygienist Qualifications
Licensed Dental Hygienist
Be highly motivated and a team player
Provide exemplary patient care
Have the ability to establish rapport with patients of all ages and backgrounds
Present outstanding oral and written communication skills
Preferably have two years of experience working in a dental clinic is preferred
