JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Dental Assistant Trainee to participate in a comprehensive program to learn the role and functions of a Dental Assistant. Dental Assistant Trainee will partake in didactic and clinical training to prepare for the NELDA exam and promote into Dental Assistant role. The following are some of the essential pre-clinical and clinical functions you will be required to learn:
ESSENTIAL PRE-CLINICAL FUNCTIONS
Identify the functions and responsibilities for the role of a Dental Assistant.
Obtain a clear understanding of HIPAA as it relates to the Dental field.
Learn to prepare documents related to patient appointments.
Acquire knowledge of the anatomy, morphology and physiology for dental care.
Identify and display an understanding of the main components of dental charting.
Partake in Quality and Infection Control training to prepare for direct patient care.
Obtain an understanding of radiology basics, including DEXIS software.
Gain knowledge of dental equipment and instruments.
ESSENTIAL CLINICAL FUNCTIONS
Ensure quality of care by preparing treatment area for patient; cleans, sterilizes and sets up treatment area, and pulls patients chart.
Prepare patient for treatment by reviewing medical chart, greeting, seating, draping, taking blood pressure, as necessary, and providing information.
Assure efficiency of Dentist by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for Dentist access; suctioning and passing instruments.
Assure readiness of materials by selecting, mixing basses/impression materials, and placing materials for use.
Take and develop patients x-rays, as requested by Dentist and per regulatory and department protocol and procedures.
Mount and file dental x-rays per department procedures.
Maintain patient confidence by counseling patient on dental health, requesting consent for extractions/treatment, giving post-op instructions, and scheduling follow-up appointment.
Protect patients and co-workers by adhering to infection control policies and procedures.
Maintains and monitors equipment for department operations, assuring that autoclave is monitored by using spore testing.
Ensure operation of dental equipment by following procedures for maintenance, evaluation, and usage.
Maintain x-ray equipment and ensure operation by following procedures for maintenance, evaluation and usage.
Assure treatment areas are adequately stocked and ready for use.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalency
COMPENSATION
Salary: $15.00 - $17.50
***Compensation is dependent on the relevant year and months of experience.***
