Job Description
PURPOSE
Under the direct supervision of the Dentist, the Dental Assistant assists in the performance of quality, caring clinical dentistry by performing a variety of dental back office and front office assistant functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
÷ Ability to become educated and adept at performing assigned clinical and technical procedures under the direct supervision of the licensed dentist(s), including but not limited to performing laboratory procedures; be certified to take x-rays and coronal polish; taking impressions and pouring diagnostic models.
÷ Aid the dentist(s) smoothly and unobtrusively at chairside when necessary, including during examinations and treatments.
÷ Ensure patient readiness, including determining if patients have arrived, welcoming and seating patients, and notifying dentist(s) of patient readiness.
÷ Takes and reviews patient medical history and update as necessary. Take vitals and records this information.
÷ Charts existing restorations and conditions and planned treatment with options in patient chart and/or computer charting system, and prints out the treatment plan and gets this signed by patient.
÷ Prepares the operatory(ies) with the appropriate instruments and equipment, including placing appropriate instruments into the ultrasonic, sterilizing instruments, and breaking down and setting-up operatory(ies), cleaning and disinfecting according to current guidelines.
÷ Maintains awareness of patientââ¬â¢s safety and needs.
÷ Maintains equipment and inventory and monitors all incoming and outgoing lab cases.
÷ Adhere to all required OSHA and health regulations.
÷ Provides back-up to front office personnel by performing front-office duties as necessary.
÷ Actively supports and participates in chronic disease collaborative(s) and/or other re-engineering and quality improvement efforts, including testing and implementation of changes as appropriate.
÷ Assists in other areas of the dental practice and performs other duties, as assigned.
÷ Become a certified dental assistant.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Individual must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be willing and able to obtain and maintain an X-ray certification and CPR certificate. Individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function, as indicated above.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Air conditioned office, considerable standing, work on desk top computer.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
