Our Dental Hygienistââ¬â¢s basic function is to conduct oral examinations, serve as a preventative care specialist and provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services supporting total health through the promotion of optimal oral health.

Responsibilities Include:
Review patient chart in EDR and update medical and social histories. Contact physician offices with the permission of the patient and dentist for information regarding the patientââ¬â¢s health.
Provide in-scope patient care. Record treatment performed and treatment plan as prescribed by the dentist, and communicate care and treatment plan to patients.
Complete appropriate oral exams including initial hard and soft tissue examinations and oral cancer screenings, to identify dental problems such as periodontal disease or tooth decay. Expose and process dental x-rays and alert the dentist to observations.
Perform oral prophylaxis, scaling, and polishing as appropriate to remove plaque, calculus, and stains from the tooth surfaces. Apply cavity prevention agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants.
Maintain accurate dental records and documentation on each patientââ¬â¢s chart.
Educate patients on proper brushing and flossing technique, the use of special home care instruments such as dentures, flossing threaders, and interdental brushes, and proper diet. Demonstrate and explain the proper care of prosthetics. Explain the causes of dental cavities and gum disease and encourage prevention. Clarify patient questions and summarize the dental findings.
7. As necessary, assists the Dental Assistant by seating patients, cleaning packaging, and sterilizing instruments, setting up trays for dental procedures, screening emergency patients, removing sutures, taking impressions, making models, and chair side assisting.
Requirements:
Possession of an Associateââ¬â¢s Degree in Dental Hygiene from a school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
A flexible individual, willing to acknowledge and respect the cultural and social background of White House Clinics patients. Some knowledge of the operation of a primary care center is desirable.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Employees may be requested to provide coverage for another clinic on occasion. Must be willing to travel between Mt. Vernon and the other clinical locations.
