POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION:* DENTAL ASSISTANT*
One full-time, non-exempt position, 40 hours per week.
LOCATION: Donald A. LaPointe Health & Education Facility
102 Superior Avenue
Baraga, Michigan 49908
SUPERVISORY CONTROL: Tribal Dentist
SALARY: Grade 4 (minimum starting wage = $13.47/hour)
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be 18 years or older.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Must have a High School Diploma, GED, or High School Certificate of Completion.
This qualification may be waived for individuals 55 years of age or older who meet the remainder of the qualifications listed below.
This qualification may also be waived for KBIC members working toward obtaining their GED who meet the remainder of the qualifications listed below.
· One (1) year dental assisting experience, is preferred.
· Relevant medical experience OR must be able to complete on-the-job training.
· Completion of the American Dental Association course on Dental X-ray or successful completion of the course within 6 months from date of employment.
· Applicant must provide proof of full COVID-19 immunization with application, unless the Applicant has a qualifying medical condition or disability or has a sincerely held religious belief, practice, or reason for not receiving the immunization. If the Applicant is seeking either a religious or medical exemption, Applicant must fill out the proper exemption form to the Personnel Department.
· Must be able to obtain a satisfactory clearance in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act Background Investigations Policy.
· Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory result of a Security Background check, pre-employment drug testing and physical.

INDIAN PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to qualified individuals of American Indian
descent.
VETERAN PREFERENCE: Preference will also be given to Veterans (need DD214).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Act as clinical chairside dental assistant.
· Preparing and maintaining dental instruments, supplies and equipment.
· Collecting and recording patient health histories.
· Patient management during dental procedures.
· Instrument transfer.
· Dental procedure isolation techniques.
· Preparation of dental materialsâ¦cements, amalgam, composite, impression materials, etc.
· Dental charting.
· Prevention and management of dental medical emergencies.
· Inventory control and management.
2. Expose and save on computer digital x-rays.
3. Ability to work effectively with others for timely job completion.
4. Use, care for and properly store dental instruments equipment and materials.
5. Must clean, maintain, and sterilize dental equipment (daily and monthly schedule).
6. Use aseptic techniques to insure prevention of cross-contamination.
7. Perform various lab procedures for denture production,
· Pouring impressions to make stone and plaster models.
· Model trimming.
· Fabricating mouth guards, temporary crowns, and custom impression trays.
· Fabricating orthodontic retainers and other appliances.
8. Perform autoclave quality assurance.
9. Order and stock supplies.
10. Reviews all patient charts prior to any treatment.
11. Reviews patient health history prior to providing any treatment.
12. Observes, evaluates and applies knowledge of Dental skills to the patients.
13. Works cooperatively with the dental team, providing care in that setting.
14. Accurately records all procedures and pertinent information in patientâs record.
15. Provides individualized care to each patient.
16. Participates in office meetings as needed.
17. Performs within limits of preparation and experience.
18. Provides dental care within the guidelines of the established Indian Health Services and
Tribal practices.
19. All other duties as requested by supervisor.
