Job Description
Position Title: Dental Assistant
Reports To: Chief Operations Officer (CMO)
Classification: Hourly; non exempt
Attendance at HIPAA and compliance educational programs is a requirement of employment.
SUMMARY:
In an outpatient clinical setting; assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized dental procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established dental protocol. Dental Assistant may also provide initial patient triage, registration, and administrative services as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares operatory for patient treatment with guidance from Dentist and Hygienist.
Disinfects and sterilizes operatory after patient treatment is completed.
Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks; checks in patients, assists in obtaining patient histories, takes oral x-rays, prepares charts, administers fluoride treatments and assists with dental examinations.
Assists the Hygienist in seating the patient, taking blood pressure periodontal charting and escorting the patient to the scheduling desk upon completion of appointment.
Assists dentist with routine specialized procedures under established protocols.
Maintains stocks of medicines and dental supplies as necessary.
Interviews and reviews patients for financial status, as appropriate.
Assists receptionist with front office duties as necessary.
Educates and advises patients on specified dental issues as directed by the Dentist.
Sterilizes instruments according to procedure.
Performs control procedures on all equipment to insure equipment is functioning properly.
Assists in maintenance of dental operatories and equipment.
Monitors patient appointments; may coordinate routine office activities and administrative functions in support of unit activities.
Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
May recruit patients for studies and may participate in outreach clinical activities as required.
Actively participates in Dental Quality Improvement Program.
Follows all protocols, HIPAA, OSHA, safety, infection control, and biohazard standards while performing all duties.
Actively participates in patient surveys and statistical data collection.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Must be willing to work at any site in Stark County.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Graduate of an accredited Dental Assisting Program or a minimum of 3 yearsââ¬â¢ experience in four handed dentistry.
2. Dental Assistant must hold current State of Ohio Radiography Certification.
3. Prior experience with OHSA, CLIA, safety programs and immunizations highly preferred.
4. Dental Assistant Certificate with the State of Ohio Board or Dentistry preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
2. Knowledge of inventory management practices.
3. Ability to maintain and coordinate calendars and schedule appointments.
4. Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
5. Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
6. Knowledge of related accreditation, safety and certification requirements.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must be willing to submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check if requested.
May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
CCC will provide Hepatitis A/B vaccinations; candidate may decline vaccinations in writing or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
A pre-employment background investigation may be required.
Become BLS Certified within ninety days of hire.
Must be willing to travel as needed.
Must be vaccinated for Covid-19
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with receptionist duties in a clinic office setting will be performed on a repetitive basis. This also includes bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and walking. The ability to sustain moderate physical activity, handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, and standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day is expected. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required. Working under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.50 per hour
