Job Information:

8am to 5pm, Monday through Thursday
Reports to the Office Manager
1 hour lunches

Things You Should Know Before Applying:

Monday - Thursday
While the job says 8am to 5pm, our expectations are that you are here at the office by 7:30am to set up for the day and leave by 5:30pm to prepare for the next day. If your work with a patient carries over 5:30pm, you are expected to stay until treatment is completed.
You will be required to deal with hazardous materials, including but not limited to used needles, blood, teeth, saliva, etc.
This job requires you to work in a fast paced environment, deal with patient setbacks, and busy schedules.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

RDA License and/or at least 1 year of RDA experience
Exceptional communication and people skills
Detail oriented, meticulous, and safety conscious
Organized and clean
Aware and highly cognizant
Flexible and able to work under pressure
Team player (demonstrates collaboration and cooperation)
Knowledge of dental instruments and sterilization methods
Understanding of health and safety regulations

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for assisting the dentist in the clinical treatment of patients

Specific Duties:

Greets and seats dental patients. Sets out a patient's proper radiographs, charts, instruments, and materials for designated dental procedures.
Assists patients in completing medical history. Records specific information on the patient’s dental record as dictated by the dentist. Helps patients understand procedures to make appointments.
Verbally review and have patient sign consent specific to the treatment being performed by the dentist.
Observes higher grade dental assistants providing chairside assistance. Performs the following tasks under the guidance of higher-grade dental assistant or dentist: passes instruments, arranges and mixes dental materials; operates oral evacuator; retracts cheek and tongue; provides post-operative instructions. Properly wear gloves, mask, protective eyewear and barrier garment for all dental procedures.
Verbally review and hand patient post-operative instructions and supplies, e-mail option is also available for post-operative instructions. For patients on sedative rx, review post-operative instructions with an adult driver then walk the patient to the car and then properly document in chart notes. Patients under sedation rx are not legally able to sign any changes to treatment or financials.
Responsible for properly cleaning, packaging, and sterilizing all dental instruments. Correctly organizes and sets up dental instruments, supplies and materials for each dental procedure. Uses appropriate infection control techniques during set-up and clean-up.
Maintains operational unit and clinic areas in a clean, orderly, and aseptic manner. Provides routine maintenance on dental equipment. Informs supervisor about repairs or adjustments needed for equipment in the clinic.
Properly stores dental instruments, supplies, materials and tray set-ups. Responsible for keeping the assigned clinic area properly stocked with all necessary supplies, materials and instruments. Informs supervisor when inventory of supplies and materials are low.
Ability to learn and follow procedures such as receiving patients, ordering supplies, organizing tray set-ups and using aseptic technique.
Ability to learn the use, care and storage of dental instruments, equipment and materials.
Ability to learn infection control procedures and techniques.
Ability to interact with patients, to be able to explain procedures, give post-operative instructions, and make appointments.
Ability to learn basic dental terminology and record keeping procedures to properly enter information in patient records.
Dexterity to be able to pass instruments and materials, to suction and retract when assisting.

Treatment Room Management and Sterilization:

Always check to ensure that dental units are ready, stocked, and clean.

Records Management:

See that records are stored securely and handled in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations
Accurately document patient information
Review patient charts and radiographs for the next day’s appointments
Assist in the administration of the recall system

Inventory Management:

Monitor inventory and order dental office supplies as needed
Ensure that treatment rooms are always stocked

Office Participation:

Help in other areas of the office when necessary (phones, unpacking supplies, moving dismissed patient records, etc.)
Be an active participant in staff meetings
Promote team concept by interacting with others in the office

Pay: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour
