Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in your dental office can be a blast. Here are some suggestions to help you with whatever you’re planning to do.

What is St. Patrick's Day?

Every March 17th, people worldwide get to don a little green in honor of St. Patrick's Day! This lucky-charm celebration kicks off with a nod to its pious beginnings and celebrates Ireland's patron saint - the legendary figure who brought Christianity into the Emerald Isle centuries ago.

They say St. Patrick was a real hero! He endured 16 years of slavery in Ireland only to emerge from his captivity and establish monasteries, churches, AND schools - talk about overcoming adversity! To this day we commemorate him for all the great things he did by celebrating on March 17th every year with religious services and feasts (but watch out because leprechauns are always lurking around!). Be sure you wear green or else you could be pinched!!

So break out your green garb and grab some shamrocks for good luck as you join this age-old tradition that has evolved from religious services to a global party celebrating Irish culture!

Is St. Patrick's Day an Official Holiday?

Fortunately, St. Patrick's day is not an official U.S. holiday. So dental offices everywhere get to celebrate the day in the office, working!

If you live in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador or the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat, you'll have to celebrate by yourself at home, because for you, St. Patrick's Day is a national holiday.

St. Patrick's Day Sayings

If you want to sound a little Irish, add any of these sayings to your day.

  • Greet staff and patients with a "top of the morning to ye!"
  • When patients are leaving, say "May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go."
  • OR "Wherever you go and whatever you do, may the luck of the Irish be there with you."
